Kırşehir Ahi Evran University, the sole university of Kırşehir—the capital of the Ahi Order—and named after Ahi Evran-i Veli, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The university’s roots date back to the Male Primary Teacher School founded in 1961. The institution operated under this name until 1974, when it was transformed into an Education Institute. In 1982, it became a two-year Vocational School of Education affiliated with Gazi University. After becoming a four-year college in 1988 and being renamed the Kırşehir Faculty of Education in 1992, the institution gained its current identity as "Ahi Evran University" on March 17, 2006. Following a decision on May 18, 2018, the name was officially changed to "Kırşehir Ahi Evran University," identifying the institution more closely with its home city.
Established on March 17, 2006, under Law No. 5467, Kırşehir Ahi Evran University continues its educational activities with 10 faculties, 3 institutes, 3 schools, 7 vocational schools, and 22 research and application centers, supported by a strong academic infrastructure and modern facilities. Since its foundation, the university has taken bold steps forward, raising new generations through its well-established faculties. In addition to its educational mission, the university continues to strengthen its reputation through academic achievements, social responsibility projects, and scientific research.
Setting a benchmark in quality management since 2015, Kırşehir Ahi Evran University became the first university in Türkiye to receive the ISO Quality Management System Certificate from the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) for all its units simultaneously. Building on this success, the university was later awarded 5 Stars in the EFQM Model for Excellence and Competence. As part of its quality initiatives, the university achieved another milestone by developing the Integrated Quality Management System (BKYS)—a domestic and national software designed to streamline quality processes. To date, approximately 27 universities and institutions have begun using the BKYS platform developed by Kırşehir Ahi Evran University. Furthermore, by prioritizing accreditation, the university has secured 5-year full accreditation, ensuring that its students' diplomas are recognized and valued on international platforms.
Selected as a pilot university within the Regional Development-Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project, Kırşehir Ahi Evran University has implemented six major projects of great importance for regional development in the fields of agriculture and geothermal energy to ensure the welfare of the local population, including "Geothermal Resource Procurement and Transmission to Project Sites," "Forage Crop Production," "Walnut-Oriented Development," "Traditional and Complementary Medicine (GETAT)," "Sports Health Research, Application, and Thermal Rehabilitation Center (SAUTER)," and "Geothermal-Sourced Rehabilitation Center (JEOKAREM)." While the forage crop project contributes to the advancement of livestock farming, the walnut-oriented development project predicts which walnut varieties will be most productive in the region; similarly, the GETAT project provides healthcare through alternative medicine, while SAUTER works toward making the city and region a leader in health tourism.
Kırşehir Ahi Evran University has continued to strengthen its academic achievements since its foundation. While carrying out its educational activities with a robust academic staff, our university has consistently remained at the forefront of scientific and social endeavors. Within the framework of evaluations conducted by world-renowned research institutions, Kırşehir Ahi Evran University continues to advance its presence in the international arena with its success in global rankings.

In addition to producing projects that address regional needs, our university implements activities such as the "University-City Meetings" and the "Cacabey Science Festivals," which contribute to its integration with Kırşehir. Kırşehir Ahi Evran University is also taking strong steps toward becoming visible on all platforms by signing cooperation agreements with local, national, and international institutions and organizations.

Evaluating the 20th anniversary of Kırşehir Ahi Evran University, Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil stated that the university began its educational journey in 2006 with limited resources and only a few faculties, but has transformed into a major campus with significant academic success and physical infrastructure over the past 20 years. Emphasizing that the Central Campus has become a hub for student-oriented life through recently accelerated high-tech laboratories, technology centers, modern architecture, and social facilities, Rector Karahocagil continued: “The seed of higher education planted in the soil of Kırşehir 20 years ago is now firmly on its way to becoming a giant plane tree. While our guide in this journey is blending Ahi values with science, we simultaneously serve our country’s development through the thousands of graduates we have raised.” Touching upon efforts in digitalization and sustainability, Prof. Dr. Karahocagil added that with its rising position in the "GreenMetric" (Green Campus) rankings, national technology laboratories, and technopark investments, the university is entering its third decade by strengthening its claim as an R&D hub rather than just a diploma center.
