Sociologist İlknur Dilek Öztürk was the first to speak at the event, providing information about home care services for people with disabilities. Öztürk stated that home care assistance is a service provided to meet the care needs of individuals with disabilities within their social and physical environment, alongside their families, without separating them from that environment. She noted that in order for this service to be provided, it must be specified that the individual with a disability is severely disabled or completely dependent.

Afterwards, Social Worker Özge Çakır Salas gave a speech and made a presentation titled “Disabled Institution Services” and “Rights-Based Approach: Legal Rights of Disabled Individuals.” In her presentation, Salas explained the care models for persons with disabilities and stated that applications regarding the requests of persons with disabilities are made to provincial and district directorates by the persons with disabilities themselves or their legal representatives. Continuing her speech, Özge Çakır Salas also provided information about the legal rights of individuals with disabilities, emphasizing that the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey states that individuals with disabilities are equal in front of the law, just like other individuals, and that improvements for individuals with disabilities within the scope of reasonable accommodation will not be considered contrary to the principle of equality.

Following Social Worker Özge Çakır Salas, Assistant Professor Yusuf Topal presented “Developmental Support and Family Communication: A Pediatric Rehabilitation Perspective,” and Tugay Demir presented “Experiences of Overcoming Disabilities: Stories from Life.”

December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities: The event titled “We Are Together, We Are Stronger with Awareness” concluded after participants were presented with certificates.
