The Faculty of Theology organized a panel on October 20, 2025, at the Neşet Ertaş Hall of the Ahi Evran Congress and Culture Center to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the death of Aliya Izetbegović. The student panel titled “Aliya Izetbegović on the 22nd Anniversary of His Passing” was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Murat Karakaya, academic and administrative staff, and students. The panel was moderated by Dr. İzzet Gülaçar, and the speakers were theology students Berfin Yıl, Gülcihan Güneş, and Burak Erçoban.
In his opening speech, moderator Dr. İzzet Gülaçar emphasized that Aliya Izetbegović, known as the Wise King, was not only a politician but also a great leader for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Gülaçar stated that during the Bosnian War, Aliya was a guiding leader for his people and conveyed to them in the best way that freedom can only be achieved by paying a price.
After the opening speech, the panel began with a discussion portraying Aliya not only as a leader but also as the embodiment of high moral values and wisdom. Reference was made to the fundamental problems of Western philosophy, emphasizing Aliya’s original metaphysical worldview shaped by his statement, “If there is man, there is God.” The panel also highlighted other aspects of Aliya Izetbegović’s thought, showing that he was not merely a leader of his time but the bearer of a universal legacy of wisdom that transcends periods, borders, and ideologies. One of the key messages of the event was the importance of understanding and preserving this legacy for future generations.
