Midwifery, one of the oldest professions in human history, has existed alongside humanity and, with the vital mission it undertakes, has become an indispensable profession for society. To highlight the importance of midwifery, an essential profession for the future of communities, May 5th is celebrated as International Day of the Midwife. In this context, an event was organized by the Department of Midwifery at the KAEU Faculty of Health Sciences on May 6, 2025, at the Ahi Evran Congress and Culture Center, 15 July Hall. The event was attended by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Özata, Head of the Midwifery Department Dr. Halime Aydemir, along with academic and administrative staff, and numerous students.

Delivering the opening speech of the event, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Özata emphasized that midwives, who serve across the country, in both villages and cities, often under challenging conditions, provide essential care to mothers and babies before, during, and after childbirth, noting that this is a highly demanding task. Prof. Dr. Özata underlined that the declining birth rates in Türkiye have become one of the country's major issues and stressed the importance of raising awareness among families through midwives. He thanked everyone who contributed to organizing the event titled "Start Life with a Midwife" and extended his congratulations to all midwives on the occasion of International Day of the Midwife.

Speaking at the event, Head of the Midwifery Department at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Halime Aydemir, stated: "Today, we are not just here to celebrate a professional day, but also to share in the excitement and pride of you, esteemed midwives, who accompany a special journey, one that touches humanity, changes lives, and nurtures hope. May 5, International Day of the Midwife, is commemorated annually around the world to emphasize the importance of the midwifery profession and highlight the contributions of midwives to women’s health and the birth process. Midwifery is not just about delivering babies, it means earning a woman’s trust, supporting her, and standing by her side with love and compassion. You are the heroes of the future who will shape this profession not only with knowledge but also with empathy, love, and humanity. Remember, with every birth, a woman rediscovers her strength, and you are the leaders who help reveal that strength and touch lives." She concluded her speech by celebrating the International Day of the Midwife, extending her congratulations to fellow faculty members, practicing midwives, and students, and expressing her faith and confidence in all her students, wishing them continued success.

The event continued with the presentation of plaques to the students who won first place in the painting and material preparation competition organized by the Faculty of Health Sciences, the awarding of medals and a trophy to the students of the Midwifery Department volleyball team, a tour of the painting exhibition, and a musical performance.
