A conference titled "A Career at the Summit of Justice – Experiences from the Constitutional Court" was organized by the KAEU Career Planning Application and Research Center. The event was held on May 5, 2025, at the 15 July National Will Hall of Ahi Evran University Congress and Culture Center. It was attended by the Justice of the Constitutional Court Selahaddin Menteş, Kırşehir Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek, Kırşehir Deputy Necmettin Erkan, Chief Public Prosecutor Oğuz Şükrü Öner, Chair of the Judicial Commission Yusuf Peker, Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil, President of the Bar Association Atty. İsa Dağıstan, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Musa Özata and Prof. Dr. Ali Güneş, Secretary General Dr. Hüseyin İlter, along with academic and administrative staff and many students.
Before the program, Justice of the Constitutional Court Member Selahaddin Menteş, Kırşehir Deputy Necmettin Erkan, Chief Public Prosecutor Oğuz Şükrü Öner, Chair of the Judicial Commission Yusuf Peker, and their accompanying delegation visited Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil in his office. During the visit, ideas were exchanged on the judicial system of our country and the ongoing work of our university.
The opening speech of the program was delivered by Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil, who emphasized that as a higher education institution named after Ahi Evran-ı Veli and operating with the motto “Science and Art in the Footsteps of Ahi-Order,” they place great importance on the master-apprentice relationship rooted in the Ahi-Order alongside vocational training. Rector Karahocagil stated that, in this regard, they regularly invite esteemed professionals to the university to connect them with students. He continued his speech as follows: “Because our esteemed guests, whom we consider the masters and pioneers of their professions, are role models representing the concept of benevolence in Ahi-Order, meaning doing one's job in the best possible way. They embody theoretical knowledge and the practical skills and experiences accumulated over the years, serving as a roadmap within the Ahi organization for our students. We will continue hosting leading figures in their fields at the university through similar programs.". Prof. Dr. Karahocagil expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the preparation and organization of the event and concluded by stating his belief that the program would be beneficial to the students.
Following the speech of Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil, Kırşehir Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek addressed the audience. In his speech, Governor Demiryürek emphasized that the peaceful and secure coexistence of societies depends on the proper functioning of justice, and underlined that justice is an indispensable value as it ensures the protection of individual rights, enforces the principle of equality before the law, and represents sacred peace. Governor Demiryürek stated that in societies where individuals feel safe, can freely claim their rights, and trust a fair and impartial judicial system, stronger decisions can be made about the future. He continued: “In this respect, the rule of law, an independent judiciary, and a fair trial process are indispensable elements of democratic governance. The Constitutional Court, one of the most important institutions in our country for safeguarding fundamental rights, is the highest judicial body that oversees the supremacy of the Constitution, checks the constitutionality of laws, and protects citizens’ fundamental rights through individual applications. Established by the 1961 Constitution and with an expanded mandate under the 1982 Constitution, this institution plays a critical role in maintaining the continuity of the judiciary.” Governor Demiryürek expressed that this program provides a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insights into the functions, operations, and role of the Constitutional Court within the legal system. He also stated his belief that the event would contribute to the development of students who will shape the future of Türkiye in this field. Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek added: “Whatever profession we pursue, we must never abandon the values of justice, equality, and fairness — they should guide every moment of our lives,”, and concluded by thanking Justice of Constitutional Court Selahaddin Menteş, whose experiences will illuminate students’ future, the participants and all those who contributed to organizing the program.
Following the speech of Kırşehir Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek, Justice of the Constitutional Court Selahaddin Menteş took the floor to present the structure, operations, and role of the Constitutional Court within the legal system. He explained that the Constitutional Court consists of 15 justices and that individual applications can also be submitted to the Court. Highlighting the Court's crucial role in the review of legislation, Menteş provided detailed information on the judicial review process and how it functions. After Justice of the Constitutional Court Selahaddin Menteş’s speech, the program continued with a panel session moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emine Şener, Director of the Career Planning Application and Research Center. During the session, Menteş shared his experiences and insights from serving as a justice of the Constitutional Court, offering students a unique perspective on the highest level of judicial responsibility. In the second part of the session, Menteş answered questions from students.
Following the interview session, Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil presented the Ahi banner to Justice of the Constitutional Court Selahaddin Menteş. The program concluded with a group photo session.
