In collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University and the Kırşehir Provincial Police Department, a Digital Zero Waste Laboratory has been established at KAEU. The opening ceremony took place on March 5, 2025, at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture building. The event was attended by Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil, Kırşehir Provincial Police Chief Erdoğan Kartal, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Ali Güneş and Prof. Dr. Musa Özata, General Secretary Dr. Hüseyin İlter, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Architecture Prof. Dr. Levent Urtekin, Vice Dean Prof. Dr. İlkay Açıkgöz Erkaya, Cyber Crimes Division Director of Kırşehir Police Department Kazım Anıl, as well as faculty members, administrative staff, and students.
During the ceremony, Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil delivered the opening speech, expressing his satisfaction with the launch of the Digital Zero Waste Project Laboratory. He highlighted that this laboratory would help students enhance their knowledge, skills, and experience. Rector Karahocagil also extended his gratitude to the Kırşehir Provincial Police Department for their support in establishing the laboratory and educating students in this field. He continued: “Through the Digital Zero Waste Laboratory, KAEU Faculty Members and students of Computer and Electrical-Electronics Engineering Department will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Provincial Police Department. Under the guidance of our faculty members and police department personnel, students will be able to acquire both theoretical and practical knowledge.” He emphasized that the laboratory was established to contribute to students' education and address one of the biggest challenges of the future—the recycling of digital waste. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil noted that the Digital Zero Waste Project was being implemented in Türkiye for the first time. He highlighted the project's significance and wished for the laboratory to be beneficial for both the university and the city.
Following, Kırşehir Provincial Police Chief Erdoğan Kartal took the floor, expressing his hope that the laboratory would contribute to the professional development of students. He also shared his happiness that such a project had been implemented at the university.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Kazım Anıl, Director of the Cyber Crimes Division at the Provincial Police Department, provided information about the laboratory, its scope, and its functions. Subsequently, General Secretary Dr. Hüseyin İlter, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture Dean Prof. Dr. Levent Urtekin, and Vice Dean Prof. Dr. İlkay Açıkgöz Erkaya emphasized the significance of the Digital Zero Waste Project in the modern technological era. They expressed their gratitude to Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil and Provincial Police Chief Erdoğan Kartal for their contributions to the establishment of the laboratory.
Following the speeches, protocol members toured the laboratory, engaged in discussions with students, and exchanged ideas on the benefits and potential impact of the laboratory.
