The Environmental and Energy Management System Commission of the KAEU Quality Management Coordination Office organized a Zero Waste Information Meeting. The event took place on December 11, 2024, at the Neşet Ertaş Hall in the Ahi Evran Congress and Culture Center and was attended by Vice Rector and Quality Management Coordinator Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Şimşek, Secretary General Dr. Hüseyin İlter, and zero waste coordinators from academic and administrative units.

In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Şimşek shared details about the university's quality initiatives, including the establishment of the Environmental and Energy Management System Commission under the Quality Management Coordination Office. He highlighted the university's significant efforts in energy management, which led to obtaining the ISO 50001 Energy Management System Certificate. Prof. Dr. Şimşek also mentioned that as part of the Zero Waste Project, the university has collaborated with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, which provided financial support of 400,000 TL. He expressed confidence that all units within the university would adopt an environmentally conscious approach and that the Zero Waste Certificate would soon be awarded to the institution. Prof. Dr. Şimşek concluded by thanking those who contributed to the project and the zero waste coordinators for their efforts.

Following Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Şimşek, Prof. Dr. İlkay Açıkgöz Erkaya, Director of the Environmental Issues Application and Research Center, delivered a presentation on the Zero Waste Project. She explained the harm caused by waste and outlined the necessary steps for waste transformation within the project's framework.

Later, Dr. Demet Hayriye Özaltun detailed the university’s Zero Waste Action Plan. She described plans to equip all units with indoor and outdoor waste segregation bins, storage containers, temporary waste storage area containers, signage, and informational posters for indoor spaces. Dr. Özaltun noted that these efforts would culminate in an application for the Zero Waste Certificate for Kırşehir Ahi Evran University. The meeting emphasized the university's commitment to environmental sustainability and the importance of the collective effort in achieving the goals of the Zero Waste Project.
