“World Peace Requires to Be United, Strong, Great and Active"

After the speech of the dean of FEAS Prof. Dr. Nur Çetin, Rector Karahocagil started his speech by stating that they face the cruelty of the enemy at Cyrus, Karabagh, Gazza and they needed to be strong against such cruelty. Karahocagil who expressed that the war continued on each front added; "First of all, I commemorate our martyrs who lost their lives for their country. I wish us a blessed triumph against cruelty.  Today, as indicated by the schemes made over the Mediterranean, this matter is important. The heroic epic written against seven states in 1974 is evidence of this, and the honor of Cyprus is a just cause. Today, the ongoing oppression in Gaza demonstrates that unity, strength, greatness, and activity are not only obligations for our nation but also for world peace. Remembering the martyrs and veterans with mercy and gratitude, Rector Karahocagil also thanked the TRNC speaker Zorlu Töre, for his visit to KAEU.

After the video depicting the process in Cyprus prepared by the Assembly of the TRNC, Speaker Zorlu Töre, took the stage to deliver a conference titled "The Just Struggle of the Turkish Cypriots from Past to Present." Töre first evaluated the reasons for the existence of the Turks on the island from a historical perspective and emphasized that the Cyprus issue was not solely the concern of the Turkish Cypriots but was also the national cause of the Turkish nation.

“We are One with Turkiye ”

Töre, stating that Turkiye arrived in Cyprus by both sea and air in 1974, said, "The Turkish Army is not a guest on the island; we are one with Turkiye. They came there as guarantors, but the Turkish soldiers were also the owners of Cyprus. Because the Mujahideen and the Turkish soldiers shed blood and gave their lives for those lands. Neither America, the European Union, Russia, nor the United Nations Security Council gifted us those lands. Who gifted them? Our dear martyrs, our heroic veterans gifted them. And our duty is to fully support the TRNC, to support the state. This is our debt to our martyrs, to future generations, to our nation, to history,".

“Those who forget their history are condemned to repeat it.” We won't!”

Töre emphasized the importance of not forgetting the past in his speech, saying 'If we forget, as Alija Izetbegovic said, those massacres will come again. Therefore, in order not to repeat history, we will not forget our past, we will not forget our history, we will not forget our ancestors. We will know well what we will leave to the next generations. What did Atatürk say? 'The Republic is our greatest legacy.' Likewise, the TRNC in the northern part of the island of Cyprus is one of our greatest legacies. It is the work of the Turkish Cypriot people. In Cyprus, the Mujahideen and the Turkish soldiers gave their lives together, and shed their blood together. They brought us to these days by sacrificing their lives and their blood. Therefore, this is a national cause, the national cause of the Turkish nation.

At the end of the program, TRNC Speaker Zorlu Töre was presented with the 'Distinguished Service Award' by our university for his efforts in the Cyprus issue. The program ended with a photo shoot.
