At the 31st World University Games (2023 FISU) held in Chengdu, China, from July 27 to August 8, students from Kırşehir Ahi Evran University (KAEÜ) returned with medals. Our coach and students, who achieved significant success in the tournament, visited Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil on December 12, 2023. Those who participated in the visit included Hakan Rençber, Merve Dinçel, Mervenur Erdem, Ferhat Can Kavurat from the Faculty of Sports Sciences, who participated in the university games with the Taekwondo National Team, and coach Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevde Mavi Var.
The event hosted by the city of Chengdu featured 18 branches, and Turkiye participated with 108 athletes in 11 branches at the World University Games, winning medals in many branches. In the tournament, our university students from the Taekwondo National Team, Hakan Reçber - gold medal in Men's 63kg, Merve Dinçel - silver medal in Women's 49kg, Mervenur Erdem - silver medal in Women's 73kg, and Ferhat Can Kavurat - bronze medal in Men's 68kg, achieved success. As a result of their achievements, Hakan Reçber and Merve Dinçel also earned the right to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Expressing his satisfaction with the visit, Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil congratulated the athletes who added value to Turkish sports and our university by winning 4 medals in a tournament. Rector Karahocagil wished them continued success and congratulated the coaches who contributed to their achievements.
