The Matrix Team, which was consisting of KAEU students Cemre Deniz Yıldız and Esma Halide Kurt supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Gülsüm Akkuzu Kaya from the Department of Computer Engineering of the KAEUFaculty of Engineering and Architecture, made it to the finals at TEKNOFEST 2023. The Matrix Team passed the detailed evaluation stage with 85.5 points in the Social Innovation Category of the Technology Contest for the Benefit of Humanity with their project titled “SMA DONATION APP” and qualified for the final.

Thanks to the project, it is aimed to develop a mobile application for SMA patients and to provide help to people in need. The application aims to prevent personal data breaches by sharing patient information only with necessary users. The actual data needed in the SMA DONATION APP project will be provided by the Turkey SMA Foundation. It is expected that safe and innovative solution methods will be put forward together with the project, which was developed on a vital and sensitive subject such as SMA by using technological opportunities. Making a brief statement on the subject, Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya said that they would always continue to support all of our students and academics who work, produce, and add value to our university, saying, "SMA is a hereditary and neurological disease. In our country and in the world, there are dilemmas about helping many patients. I think that thanks to the developed applications, the aid will reach its destination, and I congratulate the team.”
