Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya visited the tile made in the building of the KAEU Faculty of Medicine. During the visit that took place on 3 August 2022, Rector Karakaya was accompanied by Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil, Secretary-General Mehmet Zeki Küçük, heads of departments, and academic and administrative staff.

Giving information about the tile work, Asst. Prof. Dr. Arif Hüdai Köken from the KAEU Faculty of Medicine said that this work was an important work that brought the traditional Turkish arts of tile and miniature together. Explaining that tile was important in terms of containing images representing the History of Medicine, Islamic Medicine, Anatolian Seljuk Medicine, and Ottoman Medicine, Dr. Köken continued his speech as follows: In this study, it is possible to see the silhouette of Ibn-i Sina, one of the important physicians of Islamic Medicine, the crown gate and snake symbol of Kayseri Gevher Nesibe Hospital from the Seljuk Period, the snake symbol in the Çankırı Cemaleddin Ferruh Hospital, some medical practices depicted by the drawings of Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin from the Ottoman Period and the mastery of the Ahi organization, and the shedding ceremony, which is a ceremony. In these images, it is seen that the master-apprentice education model and Şed Siege in the Ahilik organization are similar to the medical education and the graduation ceremony of the physicians.” Arif Hüdai Köken also mentioned the physical characteristics of the tile work, saying, “The tile is 7 meters x 2.80 meters in size and has a unique place in Turkey in terms of both artistic quality and craftsmanship.”.

Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya, who took information about the tile work from the tile master Sercan Bayram, stated that they always attached importance to art and said that the tile work gave KAEU Faculty of Medicine a different visual quality. Rector Karakaya, emphasizing that it was remarkable that the tile work was built in the Faculty of Medicine building in terms of telling the History of Medicine, thanked the Tile Masters Sercan Bayram and Aslıhan Bayram, the Vice-Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil, the Vice-Dean of Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Kemal Özyurt, Medical Historian Prof. Dr. İlter Uzel, Faculty Members of the History of Medicine and Ethics Department Asst. Prof. Dr. Arif Hüdai Köken and Asst. Prof. Dr. Özgür Kıran.

At the end of the visit, the Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya and his companions had a souvenir photo with the tile work.
