Başer: “Aliya is not just a name to be remembered on the anniversary of his death”

Atty. Hayrullah Başer, Chairman of the Board of Anatolian Education, Culture, and Science Foundation, who was invited to the stage to give his speech afterward, started his speech by underlining that Aliya was not just a name to be remembered on his death anniversaries. Stating that they, as a foundation, had been working in the contemplation and direction of "reconstruction of a civilization" for more than ten years, Başer continued his speech as follows: "However, we saw that Aliya started the construction fifty years ago, and we prepared the project to understand and commemorate Aliya, and now, we are experiencing the happiness of meeting with young people in Anatolia and talking about him and commemorating him. Aliya İzzetbegovic is a role model. When I read Aliya's book "Islam Between East and West", I saw that Begovic analyzed both geographies very well. Aliya followed the Prophet's call to "follow the middle path." In this, we need to read, improve ourselves, and move forward. This is a struggle for faith, not for power" .

After the speeches, the panel started. The panel started with the moderation of Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kavaz from KAEU and was attended by Prof. Dr. Hilmi Demir, Director of The Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey Middle East and Central Asian Studies Institute (TEPAV), and Dr. Osman Arslan, Press Advisor of the Constitutional Court. Moderator Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kavaz said that the West had committed unprecedented brutality in Sarajevo in the 21st century and that the West wanted to destroy the Muslim community there just because of the faith of the Sarajevo people. Saying that Aliya was a man of ideas and struggle, Kavaz noted that it was important to commemorate such a valuable "wise" personality to understand his ideal.

Demir: “Aliya Demonstrated that War can be Moral”

Director of TEPAV Prof. Dr. Hilmi Demir started his speech by talking about how Aliya's life showed the way a Muslim should live, the way a Muslim statesman is, and the way a Muslim should die. Demir, who told the audience that the way to better understand Aliya was to understand how the Balkans met with Islam, continued as follows: “Aliya's conception of civilization has two centers. One of them is human. The second is Allah. Aliya's cause and his world are to trample on the cult of the individual. There is no such thing as an individual in Aliya's literature. He never attached importance to individualism.”

Demir said, “Aliya waged war but never compromised on morals, he was a modest person. He showed that war can be moral. Aliya built a state in Bosnia and showed that it was possible to live together with people of other religions.” Finally, Prof. Dr. Hilmi Demir said: “One of the most important things that Aliya emphasizes is that Islam is a religion that does not deny human nature. For Aliya, Islam is a religion that encompasses the reality of nature and human nature.”

Arslan: "The Guide of The Wise King Aliya is Surah Rahman"

Constitutional Court Press Counselor Dr. Osman Arslan started his speech by reminding that the understanding of morality and law of Ahi Evran'i Veli was the foundation of our civilization, and he said that Aliya İzzet Begovic had also developed a philosophy of 'morality and law' based on the same roots a thousand years after Ahi Evran and applied the philosophy in every aspect of his life. Dr. Osman Arslan also shared the anecdote of "Artemis flower" and "Blue Butterfly", which is the symbol of Serbian atrocities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as follows: "Do you know the meaning of the blue butterflies? After tens of thousands of people were massacred in Bosnia, the Serbs dug mass graves in the mountains and hills so that the bodies would not be found, and threw the bodies there. They placed metals on them so that they would not be detected from the satellite. In that way, they tried to destroy the evidence of the genocide. It turned out that after the human body was buried in the ground, a flower bloomed. The name of this flower was Artemis and only blue butterflies fed on this flower. In Bosnia, the places where the butterflies were seen were dug and mass graves emerged there. This is how Aliya explains the blue butterflies in his book. "We didn't find them," says Aliya, "...blue butterflies did." That's why blue butterflies have become a symbol."

Underlining the importance of the cause of civilization, Arslan underlined that the most important element of civilization was "moral" and stated that Begovic said, "The basis of morality is faith and religion". Arslan finished his speech by talking about "Aliya and the Rahman Surah": "Every verse in the Rahman Surah shows life, personality, and thoughts of Aliya. The guide of the Wise King Aliya is the Rahman Surah.”

After the question and answer session, the "Aliya Reconstruction of a Civilization" panel ended with the awarding of a certificate of appreciation to the Academic Advisor Instructor Yusuf Islam Sürücü on behalf of the Academic Development and Thought Community for his contributions to the panel.
