KAEU, which follows the process from planting to harvesting and observes the changes, aims to contribute to export targets of Turkiye with advanced greenhouse cultivation methods. In this context, Kırşehir Ahi Evran University, which provides production-oriented R&D support to the private sector, continues its mission of creating value for the country's economy with its project to identify 'alternative products to increase the income level' of producers in soilless agriculture.


A Study is Conducted with the company of Rijk Zwaan TR to Investigate the Suitability of 7 Different Cocktail Tomato Varieties with High Yields for Soilless Agriculture
Project coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Başak stated that they carried out a study to investigate the suitability of seven different cocktail tomato varieties with various fruit characteristics, which is an alternative product with high yields, in the R&D greenhouse. Başak stated that the study, carried out in cooperation with Rijk Zwaan TR company, aimed to determine the most suitable planting frequency and pruning method for these types of tomatoes, as well as to determine the suitable cocktail tomato varieties that can be recommended for soilless agricultural greenhouses. Making evaluations regarding the data obtained from the study, Hakan Başak informed that they have prepared a road map which informs the producers about what variety, planting frequency, and pruning method can obtain the highest yield and quality, as well as the period that includes the winter production process.

Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya stated that they plan to develop greenhouse cultivation more thanks to the projects that have been started, and he noted that they determined the matters of work in the R&D greenhouse by paying attention to the strategic importance of the issues and the potential to create a multiplier effect, which problem would contribute to the solution of the issues to be studied in the greenhouse sector. Rector Karakaya stated that thanks to the alternative product project they carry out to increase the income level, the unit prices of cocktail tomatoes with different fruit colors are 2-3 times higher than cluster tomatoes. Pointing out that they give importance to the opinions of the stakeholders in the sector, Karakaya said that they are trying to create added value for the region and the country thanks to the cooperation of private sector and university.
