The projects carried out by KAEU, which was selected as a pilot university in the field of "Agriculture and Geothermal" within the scope of the Regional Development-Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Program, are spreading throughout the country with its partners. With the aim of carrying out the processes agreed between KAEU and TÜRKŞEKER regarding contract agriculture and regional development on issues such as greenhouse cultivation, walnuts, and roughage, Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya and TÜRKŞEKER General Manager Mücahit Alkan signed the protocol on behalf of their institutions.

KAEU and TÜRKŞEKER have Signed a Protocol with Strategic Purposes

Within the scope of the protocol signed with TÜRKŞEKER;  it is aimed to carry out joint studies in order to use the geothermal energy potential in the most efficient way in the field of greenhouse cultivation, to make production plans of products with high added value, to establish seed improvement programs for domestic and national production in plant production, to conduct studies and joint projects for the expansion of greenhouse cultivation in the region, to organize joint courses on human resources training for qualified personnel to work in the greenhouse sector, and to carry out joint R&D activities for the development of domestic and national technology that will reduce foreign dependency in the greenhouse sector. In addition to the foregoing, it was decided to carry out joint studies with TÜRKŞEKER to evaluate the roughage production as an alternation plant in the contracted beet production areas in the region, and to carry out joint studies on the promotion of forage crops with high feed quality and market value to the farmers and training them on their cultivation.

After the Preliminary Agreement with TÜRKŞEKER, R&D Studies Continue with Three Private Sector Enterprises

After the preliminary agreement with TÜRKŞEKER on the R&D greenhouse of KAEU, joint R&D studies, along with three private sector enterprises, have been continuing on the development of domestic production growing media that can be an alternative to the imported growing media which is commonly used in soilless agriculture. In addition, studies continue uninterruptedly on issues such as the determination of PGPR bacteria that can be used in soilless agriculture, which increase plant growth, and the breeding of varieties suitable for soilless agriculture. With the protocol signed after the preliminary agreement, the cooperation is expected to be much more comprehensive, contributing to the economy and creating a vision.
