The "University Hospitals Workshop in the Context of Medicine and Health Education in State Higher Education Institutions" was held by the Council of Higher Education (CoHE), to discuss issues related to medical and health education in state higher education institutions. Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya, Vice-Rector, and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil, as well as the rectors of state universities, deans, and relevant academics, attended the workshop, which was held on December 27, 2021, at CoHE, under the chairmanship of President of CoHE Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar.

Making the opening speech of the workshop, President of CoHE Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar said that the number of medical faculties where medical education and training is actively carried out in higher education institutions is 91, and noted that 110331 students are studying in faculties of Medicine in our country. Stating that quick solutions are mandatory in decision processes in the field of health care due to the nature of the service, the President of CoHE Özvar explained that university hospitals have important issues that will also affect their education and training activities. Emphasizing that they need to act together to solve the problems in university hospitals, President of CoHE Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar continued his speech as follows: "Despite the differences, whether it is operating its own hospital or in affiliation with the Ministry of Health, instead of thinking about the issues faced by our university hospitals only around financial management discussions, it would be a more accurate method to deal with the problems in a holistic approach. We should seek solutions to these issues under the headings of sustainable and higher standards of health services, quality medical education and medical academics, and productivity."

Stating that the decisions taken as a result of the workshop will be conveyed to the relevant institutions and organizations in written format, Ozvar, the President of CoHE, wished that this workshop, where he will listen to the current situation, good practice examples, problems and solution examples in hospitals of state universities, whether the hospitals belong to the universities or not, will be productive.

After the opening speech of the President of CoHE Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, the workshop was held in two separate sessions. In the first session held before noon, the subject of "Problems Experienced in State Universities that do not have a University Health Application and Research Center (University Hospital) and Affiliated with Hospitals of the Ministry of Health and Solution Suggestions", and in the second session held in the afternoon, "University-Owned Health Application and Research Center ( The issue of "Problems Experienced in State Universities and Solution Suggestions" was mentioned. In both sessions, the rectors of different universities took part as speakers and gave information about their current situation on the subject.
