TÜBİTAK 4004 Nature and Science Schools Project “Doğadan İlham Aldım” (I was inspired by nature) has started to be implemented. Assistant Professor Fatma Keskinkılıçfrom Technical Sciences Vocational School carries out the implementation of the project and it started on August 16, 2021 at Cacabey Campus. The project includes nature trips and 30 different workshops apart from these trips.
Assistant Professor Fatma Keskinkılıçwho gave information about the project said that they are working with two secondary school student groups (40 in total) which were formed according to grade level. Keskinkılıç stated that the groups took the same workshops at different times or as parallel sessionsand that the logic and learning order for the use of IT tools were followed while the workshops were being planned.
Assistant ProfessorKeskinkılıç also underlined that the workshops were organized to enable students to transform the knowledge and skills which they have gained during the trips and STEM activities that were planned within the scope of the project into products using IT tools with similar themes and other technological tools. For example, Keskinkılıç stated that students will get to know and examine the parts and properties of plants in the "Ecoprint" and "Nature Inspired Art" workshops and that they will have the opportunity to analyze the molecular structure of plants in the augmented reality workshop, and she underlined that the children will be able to design such a teaching material using theIT tools.
Stating that the workshops are also interrelated, Assistant Professor Fatma Keskinkılıçindicated that the nature trips and workshops in the project are parallel with the IT workshops. Keskinkılıç stated that the project implementations will continue until August 27, with nine instructors and six guides who are staff in our university, and she added that their aim is to teach children the working logic of smart devices and technologies that is around them at an early age and to raise awareness that all kinds of technological developments are inspired by nature and science.
